Staff Reporter, 25 April: Trees are being cut indiscriminately in our country leading to a grave consequence on environment. Trees are mainly cut for human habitation and collection of wood. But no regulation is maintained in felling trees. It comes to people’s notice trees in public places are felled by some influential persons for financial gain. But they don’t plant any tree to make good of the loss of trees. Trees in the hilly areas are being felled to make farm land.
In most cases the administration has little control over this
illegal felling of trees. Trees in public land are felled for building
infrastructures like building, roads etc. The authority concerned hardly think
of the adverse effect of such indiscriminate cutting down of trees. Trees in
the woods are felled by the gang of thieves. On some places trees have been
planted on a large scale as a step of forestation. But thee trees are felled
indiscriminately by some influential persons. Besides, rapid growth of
population and urbanization also contribute to deforestation. People are
clearing forest to make houses for the additional people. Government should
take stern action against illegal felling of trees. Besides, a regulation
should be developed to control the indiscriminate cutting of trees.
