*** What is sentence? How many kinds of sentence? Write their definition with two examples.

Sentence: A word or a group of words expressing a complete meaning or sense is called a sentence.

Kinds of sentence: According to meaning there are five types of sentence: They are:-

1. Assertive sentence.

2. Interrogative sentence.

3. Imperative sentence.

4. Optative sentence.

5. Exclamatory sentence.

Definitions and examples are given below:

1. Assertive sentence: A sentence that makes a statement or assertion is called an Assertive sentence.

Examples:

(a) Gazi Sharif goes to university.

(b) Gazi Surovi is sleeping.

Assertive sentence has two types:

(i) Affirmative Sentence: A sentence which generally affirms something is called an Affirmative sentence.

(a) Gazi Sharif goes to university.

(b) Gazi Surovi is sleeping.

(ii) Negative Sentence: A sentence which generally denies something is called Negative Sentence

Examples:

(a) May Allah bless you.

(b) May you be happy.

5. Exclamatory sentence: A sentence which expresses a sudden emotion of joy, sorrow and wonder is called an Exclamatory sentence.

Examples:

(a) Hurrah! we have won the game.

(b) Alas! His mother is no more.
