Price hike of the Essential Commodities
Staff Correspondent, BDR Market, Uttara, Dhaka, 10 January:
Price escalation has become a matter of great concern. People having limited
income have to fight to keep boy and soul. Unfortunately, prices are going up and
up exceeding the limit of tolerance. Market syndicate has set the chain which
is now beyond the control of the administration. The dishonest businessmen and
their syndicate are basically responsible for the price hike. They make the
artificial scarcity and increase the rate of the price. Recently the dishonest
businessmen escalated the price of sugar highest over. The price of oil, rice
and pulses has also been increased. The whole sellers and the retailers blame
each other. The retailers always complain that the whole sellers keep high
price. On the other hand, the whole sellers tell about the high cost of
transportation. Price of household products has now become unbearable fo us.
Most of our people having limited income are in danger. While speaking with
Kamal – a customer in a shop, it was known that he has to cut off a few items
from the list o his family food because of the price hike. As there is no
consumers association, they can’t even protest against it. They do not think of
buying meat and fish as they require. The price of vegetables is also high.
People hope that Government should take steps to make them free from this
harassment.
