One Friday morning Rafiq took Rehana to the Mirpur Zoo in
Dhaka. Rehana, his younger sister had never been to the zoo. A zoo is a place
where animals are kept in cages. People of all ages come to see and enjoy the
sight of wild and dangerous beasts like tigers, lions, bears and monkeys. These
are kept in strong cages. Giraffe, deer, zebra and many kinds of birds are not
dangerous. Rafiq brought some ground nuts for the deer. But Rehana was afraid
to go near the animals. Rafiq said, “Are you happy to see the animals?” She
said, “No. I am not happy because they are not free.”
